Winneshiek Medical Center lost money in April

Winneshiek Medical Center continues to bring in more money this year than last year, but higher expenses continue to produce losses.

Total Operating Revenues for the medical center are up 1.8 percent this fiscal year, compared with the same time period in 2016-2017.  That's despite the fact that there were fewer hospital inpatients. 

But 0perating expenses year-to-date are $51.9 million and have increased 7.0 percent over the previous fiscal year.  The biggest increase in expenses remains the cost of pharmaceuticals.  In addition, charity care and bad debt expense has seen an increase from last year.

Year-to-date after ten months, Winneshiek Medical Center's has a net loss of $874,793.
