Over 1,500 Winneshiek County residents voted in Tuesday's primary

There were few contested races in Tuesday's primary in Winneshiek County. Nevertheless, 1,538 people cast ballots.
With a Democratic Party primary for the governor's seat, most of those casting ballots were Democrats--1,191 of the voters, or 77.44 percent. As happened statewide, most of Winneshiek County's voters favored Democrat Fred Hubbell, whose 488 votes represented 41 percent of those casting ballots. However, Democrat John Norris showed strength in Winneshiek County, finishing second with 374 votes, or 32 percent of those casting ballots.
