Decorah School District officials have begun talking with City of Decorah officials about the Northeast Iowa Fox & Coon Club property along Highway 52, just north of KAR Auto Group.
The 6.6 acre site is owned by the City of Decorah and leased to the club. School district officials are interested in using the property to house all of their school buses.
At a meeting Monday night, city representatives were lukewarm to the idea--until the suggestion was made that the city and school district could develop a joint facility. Under that plan several bays of the bus garage would belong to the City of Decorah, which it could use for its own vehicle storage needs. The proposal could also lead to the city and school district sharing vehicle maintenance facilities.
Both sides have begun studying the proposal for a joint facility in greater detail. No decision has been made yet by city officials on whether to green light the project.
