Alliant sends the City of Decorah a letter asking to talk about a new franchise agreement

Alliant Energy representatives want to talk with City of Decorah representatives.

Alliant Regional Director Matt Cole told Decorah City Council members Monday night the utility is ready to begin negotiations on a new franchise agreement.  The current agreement expires June 15th.

City officials say an initial meeting could be held on June 18th, before or after the next city council meeting.

A letter sent to the City of Decorah in March--before the May 1st electric utility referendum--suggested Alliant would be willing to discuss a number of issues as part of a new franchise agreement, including a new operations facility in Decorah, a program to bury electric lines underground and a solar energy project agreement with the city.
