A lot of discussion, but no action yet on an engine idling ordinance in Decorah

Decorah City Council members on Monday evening decided they needed further discussion of a proposed ordinance to limit the idling time of vehicle engines.
Last year the Decorah City Council approved such an ordinance--but it was vetoed by Mayor Don Arendt, who stated that there is already a State Idling Ordinance and that there was no documentation on the potential problem in Decorah.
City Attorney John Anderson was among those Monday night suggesting there are a lot of questions that must be answered before any vote should be taken on the ordinance. He urged city council members "to sit down and get a better idea of what the concerns are."
The issue has been referred to the city council's Public Safety Committee--the same committee which reviewed last year's proposed ordinance.
