A Norwegian government official visited Decorah earlier this week.

Bard Ludvig Thorheim is a political advisor to Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs.  On Tuesday he toured Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum and Luther College and met one of his relatives--John P. Nelson of Decorah--for the first time.

"I visited Decorah and Luther College and Vesterheim because these are cornerstones in the relations that Norway has to this part of the United States. It is really a center for Norwegian-American culture," Thorheim said.

For his part, Nelson, who is related to the prominent Decorah historical families, the Korens and the Torrisons, thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent with his new-found relative.
