Decorah 8th grade student awarded the DAR Youth Citizenship Medal

A Decorah eighth grader has been awarded the annual Daughters of the American Revolution Youth Citizenship Award.

Karen Henriquez is the daughter of Jovy and Rosa Henriquez of Decorah. She was nominated for the award by her teachers.

The DAR Youth Citizenship Medal is designed to foster among schoolchildren a greater appreciation of the qualities of citizenship Americans must possess if our country is to remain sovereign and independent. This medal is presented to a student who exemplifies the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism.

The award was presented to Karen by Sarah Nowack of the Hannah Lee DAR Chapter at a recent school program.
