The two sides in the May 1st referendum on whether Decorah should be able to investigate forming a municipal electric utility have filed their final campaign financing disclosure reports.
The reports show the two sides combined to spend almost $200,000 on the campaign, with Alliant Energy spending almost $160,000 on "donations in kind" to the "Committee for Decorah's Energy Future" and Decorah Power spending almost $35,000 through "Citizens for Decorah Power."
The final Committee for Decorah's Energy Future report shows $54,601.33 in spending from the date of the last report through the end of the referendum campaign. A previous financial report showed $105,233,32 in spending, meaning the total of in-kind contributions from Alliant Energy to the campaign organization was $159,834.65.
The final Citizens for Decorah Power report shows $16,273 in spending from the date of the last report through the end of the referendum campaign. When added to $18,718 in previous spending, that produces a total of $34,991 in spending.
