Under sunny skies and warm temperatures, Memorial Day was observed in Decorah Monday with a parade starting at 10:00 a.m. at the College Drive Bridge. This year's parade Grand Marshall was Dick Schuman, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Following the parade, Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx spoke at the Memorial Day program at the Courthouse. Following Marx's comments, all veterans present were recognized by being called to the courthouse steps while their individual service anthems were played.
Also Monday, the Decorah Elks Lodge hosted a free lunch for all veterans and their families on Memorial Day, serving a total of 120 people.
