Many people will be heading to the Upper Iowa River over the Memorial Day weekend.
But the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office and Winneshiek County Emergency Management have a warning for canoeists, kayakers and other river enthusiasts. They have received a report of a dangerous bend in the Upper Iowa River, with strong current flowing towards several fallen trees. The location of this dangerous spot in the Upper Iowa is about 200 yards up river from the Pole Line Road/Bluffton Road River Access.
The Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management are recommending to the public to use extreme caution on this part of the river--or to avoid this area entirely.
Warns a news release from the two agencies, "the Upper Iowa River is ever changing and new hazards are always forming. Please govern yourself accordingly."
