Luther College awarded assistant professor of accounting Ryan Torkelson the Uwe J. Rudolf Endowed Faculty Fellowship for the 2018-19 academic year.

This endowment honors Professor Uwe J. Rudolf for his dedication to Luther College, its students, the liberal arts and the Department of Economics, Accounting and Management at Luther. It is awarded to faculty in Economics, Accounting and Management to support their scholarly work and other professional development, with the goal of enhancing and promoting excellence in student learning. Applicants create proposals, which outline a plan to complete their scholarly work, as well as a timeline of the project's completion.

Torkelson earned his Bachelor of Arts at Luther, before earning his Master of Science in accountancy from the University of Notre Dame. He has been an assistant professor at Luther since 2015, with focus on financial accounting, auditing and information technology. He has been a Certified Public Accountant in Minnesota since 2009.

"I am honored that I am able to receive an award given in the name of Uwe Rudolf. As an alumnus, I found Uwe engaging and thoughtful. He instilled the idea of looking at problems in a broader lens. I plan to use this funding to help with creating case studies and other opportunities for my accounting students," Torkelson said.
