Luther junior Janet Irankunda has received the Krahn Family Student Life Service Award for her extensive contributions to student life at Luther through her service to the community.

Irankunda, daughter of Clarise Kabasinga and Callixte Habimana of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, is a 2015 graduate of Coon Rapids High School. She plans to graduate from Luther in 2019 with a major in music and a minor in K-12 music education.
Established in 2013 by Roger A. Luther class of 1968, and Laurie Krahn of Plainwell, Michigan, the Krahn Family Student Life Service Award recognizes a student who makes a positive impact on student life. As determined by a nomination process, one student is awarded this $1000 annual award. This award is given to a current sophomore or junior student who has demonstrated a strong contribution to campus life in a way that embraces the spirit and mission of Luther College.

As an Admissions Special Events Ambassador and a peer mentor for the Connect for success program through the Diversity Center, Irankunda has "supported and cared for students on her floors for three years," her nominator noted. She also currently serves as a resident assistant for a first-year community. Through her leadership in Student Senate as a junior class representative, communication committee co-chair and the newly-elected president for the 2018-19 year, her nominator said she has "contributed greatly to student life at Luther College."  They went on to say, whether she is participating in the musical Rent, SPIN Theatre's 1,440 Minute Musical, Gospel Choir or Collegiate Chorale, Irankunda lends her "positive spirit" and "beautiful voice to campus."
