Among the damage done during the recent 3-5 inch heavy rain was that the temporary road installed to handle traffic across The Cut while the Oneota Drive Bridge is being replaced later this year was washed out.
City Engineer Lindsay Erdman says, "We basically need to put it back together similarly to what we had so that the delivery trucks can get across."
Crews will use salvaged soil and rock from the channel area to remake the roadbed. Temporary culverts will handle water flow, but Erdman notes, "more severe flooding will lead again to what you see now." The crossing of The Cut is intended to be a temporary fix, so the road will be removed when the bridge project is finished.
