There are lots of fans of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Burr Oak.  Supporters of the museum cast ballots recently in a contest to determine "Silos & Smokestacks People's Choice Site of the Year."  8, 589 people responded to the survey and over 35 percent--3,039--voted for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum.

It wasn't enough, however.  The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque has been named the Silos & Smokestacks Site of the Year.  "The National Mississippi River Museum is one of our premier heritage area sites.  They have been a long-time partner with us in telling and preserving the story of American agriculture," said Silos & Smokestacks President Cara Miller. "The river has and continues to play such an important role in agriculture and this museum does a great job of telling visitors that story."

However, Laura Ingalls Wilder Park and Museum was able to finish as runner-up, with three other Heritage Area Partner Sites competing in online voting, including the Fossil & Prairie Park & Preserve in Rockford, Brucemore Mansion in Cedar Rapids and the Wapsipinicon Mill Museum in Independence.
