Fire danger remains high in Winneshiek County

Local and state officials are urging people in Winneshiek County to avoid any outdoor burning in the next few days.

The combination of warm temperatures, low humidity levels, very gusty south winds, and dry vegetation has officials concerned that any fires that start now could spread quickly and become difficult to contain.

The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory Monday for Northeast Iowa, predicting gusts from 40 to 50 mph.
