Josey Jewell, the Decorah native who played linebacker for the University of Iowa, has been drafted by the Denver Broncos with the 106th pick in the fourth round of the NFL draft.

During his four years with the Hawkeyes, Jewell was named Big Ten Player of the Year, First Team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten.  His senior year he had 136 tackles, 69 stops, 67 assists, 13.5 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, 11 pass break-ups, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one recovered fumble.

The reaction to the draft pick by Denver was favorable.

SB Nation stated: "Overall, this is a pretty solid landing spot for Jewell. He might not get a whole lot of playing time as a rookie, but he joins a team that's rebuilding their defense and has a great veteran presence that he can learn from - including OLB Von Miller."

CBS Sports gave the pick an A- and said: "Jewell plays faster than his timed speed because of his quick play-recognition. (He's a) tackling machine."

Most importantly, Broncos boss John Elway tweeted: "Josey Jewell was an extremely productive player at LB for Iowa. He has a lot of great qualities as a person - a team captain for many years at Iowa and we're thrilled to get him at pick 106."
