The Decorah Fire Department was busy Thursday responding to two farm field fires.
Approximately 230 acres of farm fields burned in a grass fire reported to Decorah Fire Department Thursday morning around 11:00 at 1280 Old Stage Road. The Gundersen Air helicopter had flown over the field and notified the fire department. Due to the size of the fire, Waukon, Ossian and Frankville Fire Departments were called for assistance. The Decorah Fire drone was used on the scene to help direct firefighters on the ground. The fire was under control at 1:33 p.m. and firefighters cleared the scene at 4:00 p.m. The cause of the fire is unknown. No injuries were reported.
Earlier Thursday morning after 10:30, the Decorah Fire Department responded to a report of a controlled burn at 1588 Canoe Ridge Road that had extended into an adjacent picked corn field. The fire burned about 1.5 acres and was extinguished quickly--in lass than half an hour.
