(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Marlene Sorenson of Decorah):
As an Alliant Energy retiree, I support voting "NO". I am very proud of the work we did for Decorah and I see the same pride in our current local
crews.
Alliant Energy employees and retirees give back, by volunteering of their time and financially to worthy causes in the Community. Local Alliant Energy employees serve the community, on and off the job. The current employees are doing an excellent job keeping the lights on. They continue the record of service, reliability, and hard work of the Decorah Alliant Energy crews before them.
It's very rare to have a power outage here, and that's no accident!! Our hardworking crews are your neighbors and friends, they are not strangers, and they deserve a pat on the back for work well done. Instead they are feeling like they have a target on their backs. Decorah Power's written plan to "replace local crews" who know this system with outsiders has sent a terrible message to the current and former Alliant Energy employees who have served this community with pride.
With the dangers inherent in serving power, in all types of weather and conditions, local crews can't afford to have this on their minds. Voting "NO" is the only way to keep this outstanding crew working for Decorah.
