The Winneshiek County Soil and Water Conservation District honored Northeast Iowa Community College and the Northeast Iowa Dairy Foundation for their collaborative environmental sustainability efforts.

The Roy Schultz Memorial Award has been presented to Iowa's Dairy Center for outstanding contributions to the conservation of soil and water resources in Winneshiek County.  NICC, Iowa's Dairy Center and the Northeast Iowa Dairy Foundation began implementing sustainable practices on the campus and surrounding land in 2011.  Working in partnership with the Winneshiek County Soil and Water Conservation District, the NICC planted native grasses that assist in conservation efforts and soil retention. Subsequent projects have included the construction of retention ponds, waterway improvements and a native planting bioswale.
