"Freedom Fest – Coming to America" is the theme of this year's Prom Night for persons with disabilities, age 16 and up, at the Innwood Ballroom in Spillville. The special evening of food, music, dancing, games and prizes is free and draws from a 6-county area including Winneshiek, Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Chickasaw and Howard.

The event will be held Saturday, May 5th. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., and a dance will follow from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. with DJ music provided by "The Mafia Hits." The evening will draw to a close with games and prizes for all from 8:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. It is an alcohol-free event for everyone in attendance.

Event organizer Ruth Kuhn says this is the 10th year the Innwood Ballroom has sponsored Prom Night. "It's a very positive event and the participants absolutely love it. They get all dressed up, and their faces just glow," says Kuhn. "Everyone leaves with a gift bag, and that's always a big hit with the participants."

Support staff who provide transportation to The Inwood are welcome to stay, have the meal and enjoy the evening. To attend please call or text Ruth at 563-419-1905 by May 1st.

Invitations for the event were distributed to Opportunity Homes, Spectrum and Mosaic/TASK as well as area churches, businesses and organizations. Anyone who knows an individual with disabilities is encouraged to inform them of this event.

This event is sponsored by the Civic Improvement Association/Inwood Ballroom - Spillville, area churches, businesses, organizations and individuals. Any and all help is welcomed and appreciated.
