Schedule announced for informational meetings about the May 1st referendum

Posted: Thu, Apr 5, 2018 4:34 PM

Decorah City Council members have scheduled a series of informational meetings to interact with the public on issues surrounding the May 1st referendum..

The issue of exploring a locally controlled municipal electric utility has been discussed in the community since early last year but the question now has been put to the voters.  Many questions have been raised by residents about the referendum, including what possible outcomes will exist depending on the voter response and what the vote really means for the community in the future. To help address some of these questions, council members and city staff will discuss the issues and provide information in the weeks leading up to the referendum.  The forum format will include an overview of the election and discussion of key aspects of each possible election result followed by comments from the elected officials. The forums will conclude with a question and answer period.

Future informational meetings will be held at Decorah City Hall at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 14th, with Ward 3 city council representative Andy Carlson and at 10:30 that morning with Ward 2 city council representative Dan Bellrichard; and at the community room of Vennehjem at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 24th with Ward 5 city council representative Johanna Bergan.
