March was warmer and drier than average in Decorah

Decorah meteorologist Richard Bernatz reports March was warmer and drier than average in Decorah this year.

Although no records were broken, Decorah experienced a warmer than average March. The highest temperature was 53 degrees the 18th, and the coldest temperature was 7 degrees on the 8th and 9th. The average temperature was 34.1 degrees -- 1.4 degrees warmer than average. Compared to all other Marches over the past 126 years, 53 were warmer, and 72 were cooler.

Decorah received 0.88 inches of precipitation in March -- 1 inch less than the average of 1.88 inches. There were two days of measurable snowfall with snowfall totals of 6 inches -- approximately one inch less than the 7.9 inch average. Compared to all other Marches for the past 126 years, 103 were wetter, and 22 were drier.

Ten of the last twelve months in Decorah have had higher than average temperatures, and seven of the last twelve months have been drier than average.
