Pat Trewin has been named the Head Varsity Football Coach at Decorah High School, pending school board approval. Trewin will replace Bill Post, who recently retired after 45 years in the program as an assistant and head coach.
Trewin has served as an assistant during the past 22 years, during which time the Vikings have won 10 district championships and have qualified for the playoff 14 times with 9 appearances in the quarterfinals. Also during his time as an assistant, Decorah has played in five state championship games with one state title. In 2013 Trewin was named Class 3A Assistant Football Coach of the Year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association.
Prior to his time in Decorah, Trewin was the head coach at Valley/CEW for three years and an assistant coach at Bondurant for one year.
Trewin graduated from Luther College in 1992 where he was an all-conference lineman after a successful prep career at North Fayette High School.
Said Trewin, "We hope to continue the legacy of playing great football and working to help young people grow up to be diligent and responsible people. Filling the shoes of Coach Post will be a tremendous task and I am so thankful to have worked with him, and learned from him, for so long. The greatness of a program can often be measured in wins and championships, but Decorah Football is known for much more than that. We not only look forward to building upon the style of football we play, but for the way we play the game – by the rules and respectfully. I hope to continue to push the people in our program to live in the same way in all of their activities."
