The "Decorah March For Our Lives" attracted an estimated 200 people Saturday afternoon. Participants walked from Mary Christopher Park up Water Street and to the Courthouse steps.
Once at the Courthouse, marchers heard from several speakers, including 16-year-old Sarah Mumford of Decorah, who stated there have been 17 school shootings since the start of 2018. Retired doctor Kevin Sand said America has 46 percent of the world's guns--but just 4.5 percent of the world's population. Gun owner and sportsman Jerry Johnson said legislation should be passed that will reduce gun violence.
The Decorah march took place on the same day as a march in Washington, D.C. attracted hundreds of thousands of people and over 800 other marches around the globe rallied people in support of gun control.
