Kayla Koether, member of a fifth-generation northeast Iowa farm family, says she is running for Iowa House District 55.

"It is time that we revitalize our rural farm economy, rebuild our main streets, and bring the next generation home to do it," Koether said, adding, "It is time that young people know that we are making a place for them in the fabric of our communities."

"Northeast Iowa is exceptionally well-suited for growing entrepreneurship and revitalization both in our towns and on the farm. We must retain our traditional strengths, build on them and move confidently into the future. I have proven experience engaging with people—to plan and succeed in shared goals," she said.

Koether grew up on the family farm near McGregor, went to school at Grinnell College, and worked as an AmeriCorps educator for Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative after college. After taking a position in program management for Winneshiek Energy District, she is currently a specialist at the ISU Extension Office in Decorah, providing technical assistance to businesses and beginning farmers on best practices, sustainability, production, marketing and innovation.
