Candidate filing deadline has passed; Winneshiek County voters will decide two legislative races

The deadline has passed for candidates to file nomination papers for a spot on the June primary ballot.  There will be no primary contests among Winneshiek County legislative candidates, but both State Assembly districts will have contests in November.

In District 55, incumbent Republican State Representative Michael Bergan will face a challenge from Democrat Kayla Koether of Decorah.

In District 51, incumbent Republican State Representative Jane Bloomingdale of Northwood will face a challenge from Democrat Tim Knutson, also of Northwood.

On the ballot for Eastern Iowa United States Representative on the June 5th ballot will be three Democrats running for the right to oppose incumbent Congressman Rod Blum of Dubuque.  Abby Finkenauer of Dubuque, Thomas Heckroth of Cedar Falls and George Ramsey of Cedar Rapids will vie for the Democratic Party nomination.
