Northeast Iowans who go to the hospital, especially for surgery, sometimes need to stay in an intermediate place where they can work on their recovery before they can be back at home.

In a couple of months, a new skilled rehabilitation wing at Wellington Place Nursing & Rehabilitation in Freeport is scheduled to open to serve just this type of person.

17 large private suites at Wellington will have access to a state-of-the-art therapy center that will help people get stronger faster so they can get back home quicker.  The 17-room wing will also include a private dining area, spacious community living area, wi-fi access and access to outdoor patios.

Wellington Place held an informational meeting Wednesday afternoon about their new project, which included a tour and a chance to ask questions.

Said Wellington Place CEO Scott Marnin, "This modern high-tech rehab addition will provide the community and surrounding area with short-term rehab-to-home options without being integrated with long-term care residents."
