The Decorah Fire Department was called to a possible attic fire at 502 John Street in Decorah shortly before 3:45 Tuesday afternoon.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming through the attic vents. Firefighters entered the home and went upstairs, where fire began to show through the eaves at the rear of the house.
The upstairs sustained heavy fire damage before the flames were extinguished. The rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage.
Firefighters were on the scene for just under three hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
