Ask Mr. Answer Person: "How much money has the NRA contributed to Iowa politicians?"

Mr. Answer Person says: "Yes, you're right--such figures are easily found on the Internet.  The Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan think tank that tracks money in politics, found that in 2016 more than half of the members of the House of Representatives — or 232 of the 435 — received money from gun rights groups like the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America.

As you might expect, however, the NRA's largest contributions have gone to U.S. Senators.  The New York Times reported Joni Ernst received $3,124,273 from NRA for her 2016 campaign, placing her seventh among all 100 U.S. Senators in NRA contributions.

Politico has crunched numbers from The Center for Responsive Politics, calculating the total NRA contributions Iowa Congressmen have received over the years from the NRA.  Eastern Iowa Congressman Rod Blum has received $26,647 in donations from the NRA, according to Politico, while Steve King topped the list of Iowa Congressmen, receiving a total of $90,907."
