Opponents of a proposal to create a municipal electric utility in Decorah are getting organized.
A group calling itself "Decorah Residents Against Replacing Alliant" have started a drive to get 500 signatures on a change.org petition opposing the referendum.
The group says on its petition page, "The possibility of a new public electric utility in Decorah is a huge undertaking, expensive and uncertain. Decorah residents already pay very high taxes---we don't need to replace something that isn't broken. We need to focus on more urgent matters at hand in our city, such as replacing an aging elementary school."
