(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Dave Ohlert of Decorah):
"I read a Letter to the Editor the other day about the so-called Alliant robocalls, calling Alliant a profit-hungry corporation. Isn't every corporation in this country, including many local businesses? This is America--you're not working to lose money, but to turn a profit while offering a good product and good service.
Right now we have a first-class electric company keeping our lights on and furnaces running. Why do you want to trade this in for an unknown, possible third- or fourth-class operation? As far as what's on their books or even what's on your books or the books of any other business in this town, who cares? Being transparent has little to do with it. When you sell a car, you ask for more than it's worth and the buyer offers you less--it's the name of the game. To use this as a cheap way to conjure up some 'yes' votes is sad. A 'no' vote, however, will give us all a better chance of keeping our lights on in the event of an emergency."
