Candidate filing period underway for legislative, statewide and federal candidates

The filing period has begun for candidates for state and federal offices.  Candidates wishing to be on the June 5th primary ballot have until March 16th to file nomination papers.

All Iowa House of Representatives members—including District 55 Representative Michael Bergan and District 55 Representative Jane Bloomingdale—will be up for election in November.  Iowa Senate terms run for four years, so only half of all State Senators will be up for election.  State Senator Michael Breitbach of Strawberry Point was re-elected in 2016 and will not be up for election in November.

An updated list of candidates whose papers have been received and accepted will be published to the Iowa Secretary of States' website, https://sos.iowa.gov/, at the end of each day until March 16th.
