(Braden Anderson of Decorah has submitted the following Letter to the Edtior):
"I want to thank Mr. Answer Person for the answer to my question about Luther students being able to vote on the May 1st Municipal Electric Utility referendum. The issue of those living outside the Decorah City limits not having a voice in this process is rather undemocratic and certainly shouldn't be taken lightly.
However, at this time I'd like to stay focused on my initial question. Why wouldn't it make more sense to have the referendum after the Luther students leave? This would avoid a situation where there would be individuals voting on an important local issue who have little-to-no skin in the game (those students who are local to Decorah or who relocate here after graduation notwithstanding).
Indeed, using Luther students as a tool to push an agenda on either side wouldn't be illegal, but I'm far more concerned with what is ethical than I am with playing political games. It is possible that the Luther delegation would be minimal as a proportion of the votes, but wouldn't it make more sense to have a vote that doesn't involve this extraneous and transient demographic?"
