Individual wrestlers from several Northeast Iowa Schools will be competing at the State Wrestling Meet Thursday through Saturday. KDEC AM 1240 and FM100.5 will be at Wells Fargo Arena to cover the tournament.
KDEC sports director Darin Svenson will be joined by long-time wrestling sportscaster Dave Anderson on the reports that will air on both stations. Hold-by-hold coverage of matches involving Northeast Iowa wrestlers will also be aired on AM 1240 and on www.kdecradio.com.
Svenson is excited to have Anderson join him this year, saying, "Anderson was a state qualifier in high school, wrestled at Luther, worked on Luther's wrestling webcast for ten years, and is more than qualified to tackle the challenge of reporting on wrestling results this year."
"Wrestling is the premiere high school sporting event in the nation. Wrestling fans are passionate and loyal. They deserve for us to give them the information as it is happening," remarked Svenson.
Svenson reflected on one time when he was trying to watch six wrestlers at once, as there are eight mats, each mat with a match going on at the same time. "By myself it was a bit of a challenge, but the craziness and chaos is what makes it great. To be able to be a small part of the fun, chaotic, crazy challenge of the state wrestling tournament, it's one of the things I love about my job," shared Svenson.
Svenson and Anderson will focus on matches featuring qualifiers from Decorah, South Winneshiek, Cresco Crestwood, North Fayette Valley, Waukon, New Hampton-Turkey Valley, MFL-Mar Mac and Postville.
