When the Toppling Goliath taproom closed its doors at the end of the day on Friday, the closing was permanent.
Toppling Goliath founder Clark Lewey had been urging state legislators to change an Iowa law that prohibits breweries from having more than one taproom in a community. Lewey now tells decorahnews.com that he has decided to drop his campaign with the legislature and close down the College Drive location in favor of the new taproom at the Toppling Goliath brewery on Prosperity Drive.
The College Drive location has an important history for Toplling Goliath--in the early years of the company, their beer was brewed in the back room. Eventually Toppling Goliath moved production to a facility in Freeport, but the taproom remained on College Drive. Now both production and the taproom will be located in the Decorah Business Park.
Lewey says he will try to find a renter for the College Drive location after Toppling Goliath moves out.
