Winneshiek County Sheriff Officers were busy on Wednesday.
Shortly after 2:00 p.m. 30-year-old Darren Kriener of Marion was traveling northbound on Highway 24 and made a left turn onto 265th Avenue. Meanwhile, three Canadian Pacific Railroad engines were southwest bound, and Kriener did not see the train until he collided with the first engine. There were no injuries in this accident, but $9,500 of property damage was reported.
At 4:28 p.m. 27-year-old Dillon Hammersland of Fort Atkinson was headed south on Highway 150 and was stopped attempting to turn left onto County Road B-32 when he was struck from behind by 23-year-old Breanna Jo Frazer of West Union. Frazer was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Reasonable and Proper Rate. No injuries were reported, but the two vehicles sustained a combined $7,000 of damage.
At 9:30 p.m.47-year-old Chad Benzing of Fort Atkinson was stopped on Highway 9 near the intersection of 245th Avenue. Benzing was charged with Felony Third Offense O.W.I., Serious Misdemeanor Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, and Driving with a Suspended License. Benzing was arrested by the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office and taken to the Winneshiek County Jail. The Iowa State Patrol is handling the injury accident.
