Voters in the North Winneshiek and Decorah school districts overwhelmingly approve a reorganization into one school district

Voters in both the North Winneshiek and Decorah school districts have approved three ballot measures which will officially begin the process of combining the two school districts into one district.

The ballot measures won at least 80 percent approval in all cases.  Voter turnout was fairly high for a special school election--around 10 percent of eligible voters.

The approval means a new school board will be formed as of July 1st of 2019 which will have four appointees from the Decorah Community School Board and one appointee from the North Winneshiek Board.

Two years later an official permanent school board would include two at-large members, two from the Decorah District, and one from old the North Winneshiek District – all to be elected from the entire district population.
