Program to do energy audits of the homes of low-income residents is succeeding

The Regional Housing Trust Fund paid for 40 home energy assessments for low-income single family homes in four counties from 2016 to 2017, according to Andy Johnson of the Winneshiek Energy District.

Johnson told county supervisors Monday that Green Iowa AmeriCorps has been working in partnership with the Trust Fund.  Together they have served 1,000 households in a span of eight years.

Johnson says each energy assessment costs $150.  The average annual savings per household is $100.

Future plans include continuing to build the Green Iowa AmeriCorps and Regional Housing Trust Fund partnership with local leadership and shared programming.
