Decorah man being held in the Winneshiek County Jail now is also wanted in Vernon County, Wisconsin

The Vernon County, Wisconsin Sheriff's Office says a Decorah man being held in the Winneshiek County Jail is wanted in that county, also on burglary charges.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Office says a commercial building rented by Kirby Excavating & Landscaping in De Soto, Wisconsin, was broken into in the early hours of January 4th.  Power tools, money and other items were stolen.  Evidence was collected, including surveillance video, which was circulated on social media.

On January 12th, 41-year-old Mark Schroeder of Decorah was arrested on charges stemming from a December 31st burglary at Randy's Bluffton Store in Bluffton.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Office says, "The Winneshiek County case had similarities with the De Soto incident, and evidence soon linked Schroeder."

Some of property stolen in De Soto has been recovered and identified by the owner.  Two power saws, an impact tool and a few other items taken from De Soto still have not been recovered, however.

Schroeder remains in the Winneshiek County Jail on $20,000 cash bond, awaiting a trial date. The Vernon County Sheriff's Office placed a hold for Schroeder.  Vernon County District Attorney Timothy J. Gaskell is preparing to file Burglary and Felony Theft charges, according to the Vernon County Sheriff's Office.

Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said he does not think Schroeder acted alone and urges anyone with information to contact the Vernon County Sheriff's Office at 608-637-2123 or Vernon County Crime Stoppers at 608-637-8477 or 800-657-6868.  The investigation in Vernon County is continuing.  Sheriff Spears says more arrests could be made.
