A former Decorah resident is being credited with saving the life of a Des Moines man and his baby.
Jeremy Brandt attended Decorah High School before his family moved to the Des Moines area. Now he works as a UPS driver.
On Thursday Jeremy was driving on his route when he spotted smoke coming from a house at 1821 Allison Drive on the city's northwest side. Brandt stopped his UPS van and began knocking on the door of the house, waking up a man who was sleeping inside.
WHO-TV News, which interviewed Brandt, quotes him as saying, "Smoke was coming out of the side of the house and I pulled up and he came out with a baby and I made sure that no one else was in the house."
