What are the occupations with the most job openings in Winneshiek County?
A new interactive map from the Iowa Workforce Development's Labor Market Information department provides top job openings by Iowa House of Representative districts--including Iowa House District 55, which covers most of Winneshiek County. The map shows the top five job opportunities within each House district by three separate categories: estimated total change from 2010 to 2018; estimated percentage change from 2010 to 2018; and estimated annual openings for 2018.
So what, exactly, do the state figures say about job openings in Winneshiek County? The state is predicting that in 2018 there will be 84 job openings for postsecondary teachers, 79 job openings for heavy truck and tractor-trailer truck drivers and 75 job openings for construction laborers.
Those jobs also feature prominently in the list of total job change from 2010 to 2018, but if you're wondering which jobs are growing in Winneshiek County, the state says wind turbine service technician jobs have increased 150 percent in eight years, with electrical power-line installers and repair jobs up 100 percent and a couple of surprises--fundraiser jobs are up 34.7 percent in Winneshiek County since 2010 and computer-controlled machine tool operator jobs are up 34.3 percent.
The State of Iowa also says the unemployment rate in Winneshiek County continues to be low--3.9 percent is the figure used for this study
