Members of the City of Decorah's Street Committee Monday evening renewed the discussion of the city's sidewalk policy.
City Administrator Chad Bird says he wants to develop a "solid sidewalk administrative policy." The policy would need to address what criteria would be used in determining where sidewalks would not be required and where sidewalk construction costs would be paid in part by the city.
Monday evening's meeting also raised the possibility of hiring a consulting engineer to study sidewalks in the Bruening Addition. Bird agreed that the subdivision is "a separate animal" when it comes to sidewalks.
City Street Committee Chair Ross Hadley said the city definitely needs to create a written policy on sidewalks.
