Decorah Fire Chief Mike Ashbacher honored with the Outstanding Community Service Award

Each year the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce selects one community member to recognize them for the work they do volunteering on behalf of the community.

This year's Outstanding Community Service Award was presented Monday to Decorah Fire Department Chief Mike Ashbacher.  Chamber of Commerce presenters recognized Ashbacher for his lead in getting new equipment for the fire department, especially a new drone that has set a national example for the use of drones by fire departments.

Ashbacher has been with the Decorah Fire Department since 1991 and has served as Fire chief since 2002  His position is a volunteer position, as are all but three of the fire department positions.
