DHS large group speech students receive 21 division one ratings

Over 195 Decorah High School students participated in District Large Group Speech Contest hosted by MFL-Mar-Mac High School on Saturday.

The DHS Varsity Team received 21 division one ratings and the DHS 9th Team received 7 division one ratings. The performers are coached by Thomas Houdek, Molly Holkesvik, Gabe Twedt, Kristen Underwood, Carrie Kauffman, and Karen Trewin with volunteer assistance by Max Sparrow.
 
All of the groups receiving division one ratings will be participating in the Northeast District Large Group Speech State Contest hosted by Decorah High School on Saturday, February 3rd. Contest details will be available online at www.ihssa.org, complete with a schedule, early next week. Over 115 high schools and approximately 2500 people will visit the halls of DHS for state contest. Anyone interested in volunteering at contest as a room chair, timer, door monitor, and the like can contact the high school by calling 382-3643.
 
DHS Varsity speech groups advancing include one-act play, readers theater, choral reading, three ensemble acting groups, three musical theaters, two group improvisations, two group mimes, three solo mimes, two short films, two television news and one radio broadcasting.
