(Jim Burns of Decorah has submitted the following Letter to the Editor):

"It was with regret that I read the obituary of Dr. Roger Anderson, who died December 26, 2017.

One aspect of Roger's life deserves additional attention and celebration: his 47-year membership in the Decorah Lions Club. He joined in October of 1966 and served the Lions consistently and faithfully until he and Amme moved to Wisconsin in 2013. Roger served each office of the club and joyfully participated in the many activities, such as popping popcorn, serving pancake suppers, door-to-door sales and more. He regularly attended the twice-monthly dinner meetings and was known among his fellow Lions as a man who contributed to his community, as well as an excellent comrade and a man of good humor.

His fellow Lions remember Roger as providing excellent programs to the group. My dad, Wayne Burns, and Roger were great friends throughout their professional careers and in serving as fellow Lions. When it was Dad's turn to schedule a program, he would often turn to Roger, whose book reviews never disappointed. Roger would arrive in full costume as a character in the book, and his presentations were historical and biographical. Some members speculate that their favorite presentation was Harry S. Truman, but none who were there can forget the night he came as Meriwether Lewis (Lewis and Clark), accompanied by his wife Amme, who stood silently next to him in full Native American garb as Sacagawea.

Over the span of his membership, more than one hundred Lions benefited from his fellowship and accomplishments. To him we say, 'Good job, fellow Lion'."
