The Decorah-based Avey Grouws Band to compete this week in International Blues Challenge in Memphis

Local musician Jeni Grouws and The Avey Grouws Band will be competing in the 34th Annual International Blues Challenge this week in Memphis, Tennessee. The band is one of 240 bands from around the world that qualified to compete in the prestigious 5-day blues competition.

The International Blues Challenge is a worldwide talent search for blues musicians hoping to get noticed, and with so many industry professionals at the event, the potential to get noticed is tremendous, says Grouws.

"It's more than just a competition. It's about representing Iowa and being a part of an incredible music scene. Having the opportunity to play music at a professional level like this is pretty amazing."

The International Blues Challenge will be a first for Grouws, but Avey and West came in 3rd in 2009 competing as "The Avey Brothers."
