The Des Moines Register is reporting that a lawsuit has now been officially filed by Winneshiek County and 35 other Iowa counties against several manufacturers of opioids.
The article by the Register (https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/crime-and-courts/2018/01/05/iowa-counties-file-lawsuits-against-opioid-manufacturers/1008522001/) says the lawsuit was field Friday, naming Bremer, Clayton, Fayette and Mitchell counties among the plaintiffs.
The Iowa State Association of Counties two months ago unanimously passed a resolution encouraging its member counties "to immediately support" the litigation.
As decorahnews.com reported (http://www.decorahnews.com/news-stories/2018/01/18197.html) earlier this month, " In the event of a damage award or settlement, Winneshiek County will share in the settlement and could use those funds for prevention and services to individuals who have been impacted." There will be no upfront cost of joining the lawsuit--the law firm handling the lawsuit will get paid only if there is a settlement.
