"Parents for Great Iowa Schools" wants to sound the alarm about school vouchers

The "Indivisible Decorah" group will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 701 Iowa Avenue for a meeting devoted to discussion of "Educational Savings Accounts," or school vouchers.

Iowa Republicans have given signs this issue might be pushed during this legislative session.  Critics of school vouchers claim they will disproportionately affect rural, public schools and students.

Tuesday night's meeting is in advance of a meeting next Monday at 6:00 p.m. at the Carrie Lee Auditorium sponsored by "Parents for Great Iowa Schools."  The non-partisan organization is working to maintain funding to Iowa's school districts.

It will visit Decorah next Monday to explain the issues which could be coming before the legislature and how the public can make a difference.  Says the organization's website, "92 percent of Iowa kids attend our public schools, yet only 5 percent of calls legislators receive about schools are from public school parents. We need to show up in a big way this year to prevent taxpayer money being siphoned out of our budgets."
