The newly-started "Beat the Blues Winter Marathon" is a way for both kids and adults to stay active in the winter.

Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission, the Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Coalition and WalkNEIowa.org are combining to offer the program in Howard, Winneshiek and Allamakee counties.  Starting now and running until March 3rd, participants can complete 26 miles (a full marathon) of activities such as running, walking, skiing, snowshoeing, or biking outdoors--or play outside for 30 minutes to equal one mile.

Download a mileage log online at: www.WalkNEIowa.org or pick up one at Decorah Bicycles in Decorah or other locations in Cresco, Waukon and Postville.  Record your mileage, then e-mail abril@uerpc.org or send a letter to April Bril, UERPC, 325 Washington St., Suite A, Decorah, IA 52101
Logs must be received by March 3rd to be considered for prizes that include $80 rental gift card (Decorah Bicycles), free camping and canoe rental  from Hutchinson Family Farm Campground and free admission passes to Calmar Public Swimming Pool, Chickasaw Wellness Complex, Cresco Fitness Center, Decorah Public Swimming Pool, Elkader Public Swimming Pool, Northeast Iowa YMCA (Postville), Waukon Wellness Center, West Union Swimming Pool, and Williams Wellness Center (Oelwein).
