Yes, we know it's cold now, but despite the holiday chill, temperatures in Decorah were warmer than normal in December

We know you're shivering as you put on another layer of clothing to counteract the holiday deep freeze, but December in Decorah wasn't all that bad--on average.

Decorah meteorologist Richard Bernatz says temperatures averaged 23 degrees, which was 1.5 degrees warmer than the average for the past 125 years.

Yes, Decorah's high temperature hasn't been above 32 degrees since December 20th.  But you've probably forgotten that the high temperature reached 62 degrees December 4th--part of a five-day stretch in which the high was always over 50 degrees.

Compared with this December, 50 Decembers were warmer in Decorah, three were the same and 71 were cooler.

One thing we can all agree upon, however, is that there hasn't been much snow--just 3.7 inches total, which is more than five inches less than the average.  102 Decembers were wetter, one was the same and just 21 were drier in the 125 years for which records have been kept.
